Last week, I had the opportunity to visit several fantastic businesses across Lancashire. Different industries, different sizes and different challenges – but one thing stood out immediately.
The businesses that are performing exceptionally well all have resilience built into the way they operate.
Not resilience as a reaction to difficult times, but as part of their everyday business strategy.
Here’s what they all had in common:
✔ Strong systems and documented processes that create consistency.
✔ Outstanding customer service that’s embedded throughout the business, not left to chance.
✔ A genuine commitment to staff wellbeing, recognising that happy, engaged teams deliver better results.
✔ The agility to adapt their products, services and ways of working as markets evolve.
✔ A clear sense of social responsibility, understanding that successful businesses contribute positively to their communities.
None of these businesses were standing still.
They were continuously reviewing, improving and asking, “How can we be even better?”
My challenge to you this week is simple.
Take 30 minutes to look at your own business and ask yourself:
What’s the one improvement we could make today that would make us more resilient tomorrow?
Small, consistent improvements often deliver the biggest long-term results.
